January 17, 2006Well, folks it is my favorite time of year… AMERICAN IDOL is back on! I keep telling myself that I am NOT obsessed but let’s face it… I am! It has been 8 whole months since Carrie won... now it is time for the madness to begin again.
For the first few weeks, for comedic entertainment only, we are shown the bad, the worse, and the worst. We get to see very little of the good these first few weeks. First up, recaps of last season… beautiful Carrie-bot, Scott the slob, Constantine the joke. Hey, where’s my Bo? Highlights of the judges' spats… Ryan compares their antics to a “Mexican soap opera.” Huh? Was not aware they were speaking Spanish this whole time. That actually explains A LOT!
After watching this show for so long, it is predictable who is going to make it into the Top 24. If TPTB (a.k.a. The Powers That Be or more affectionately TIIC – The Idiots In Charge) make a video montage of a contestant, then we can pretty much be sure that they are going to make it through.
Previews of what’s coming up in the weeks ahead… There’s a little black girl whose Grandma is a Grammy winner... Randy gushes. The cute blonde “my-dad-is-in-prison” girl – doing a Kelly C. song really well (even though I do not understand why oh why do they do songs from past winners?)
Now here’s a rocker dude; they’re showing him with his band. He sounds okay but the shaved head look is just ugh. Simon looks bored, Paula looks excited. Now a crooner in the Junior Sinatra venue. And what Ryan describes as a “torch singer,” once again with Paula giving goo-goo eyes.
Next up… Wait, did the channel change to America’s Next Top Model? Wow, she is pretty... no chance, this chick can’t sing worth a lick. Okay, now boy eye candy in a little toboggan. Very very boy-bandish but cute. Pretty black girl with curly hair who sounds good in a Broadway way.
Now our first glimpse of the awful…. A Lil Kim wanna-be. People who are so bad and so stupid that they make Forrest Gump look like a freakin’ genius. Idol Madness has begun! My Kid and I don't know who is the most excited. Even The Hubby is smiling...
This is gonna be a good ride!
